Wayne Dorband, also known as DrEcolonomics, is an entrepreneur and environmental enthusiast whose journey is filled with stories of nature, childhood memories, and innovative projects. His passion for sustainable development and love for the outdoors are evident in the way he shares his life experiences, from growing up in Lancaster, California, to his current ventures in Idaho.
Born in southern California, Dorband reminisced in this podcast about his early years in the state and also about Idaho, where he judged a retriever field competition. His love for working with retrievers is just one of the ways he connects with nature, as he’s an active participant in American Kennel Club (AKC) retriever trials, both as a competitor and a judge. These trials involve dogs retrieving birds, simulating hunting scenarios where precision and teamwork between handler and dog are critical.
Beyond his connection with dogs and nature, Dorband has embarked on numerous entrepreneurial journeys. One of his latest projects is the acquisition of a large ranch near Riggins, Idaho, which he plans to transform into an eco-resort and the headquarters for the Institute of Economics. This property, nestled along the Salmon River, features geothermal hot springs, a lodge, orchards, and stunning mountain views. Dorband envisions this site as a living resort where people can stay, run businesses, and contribute to various sustainable projects such as farming, rafting, and river guiding. He’s actively seeking partners to help bring this vision to life. In this podcast he showed a number of images of this magnificant site.
Wayne’s commitment to ecolonomics – the idea of making a little money while making the planet better – has been the driving force behind his ventures. He continues to inspire others through his EAT (Ecolonomic Action Team) Community, where he shares insights on sustainability, green business practices, and innovative ways to live in harmony with nature.
His personal reflections during webinars often include vivid stories of his childhood, such as growing up near notable figures like Neil Armstrong and Frank Zappa. These tales serve as a backdrop to his deep-rooted connection to the environment and community-building ethos.
DrEcolonomics’ journey is a blend of personal passion, entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to create a sustainable future. Whether he’s judging retriever trials, building eco-resorts, or reminiscing about his childhood, Wayne Dorband continues to live by his motto: making the world a better place, one project at a time.
